Car lockouts, Lake County style

Lake County lockouts often happen away from home: at one of the many public boat ramps around the Harris Chain, in a grass lot on festival weekend, or at a gas station just off the Turnpike. The locksmith needs to find you, so the more precisely you can describe where you are, the better. A dropped pin from your phone's map is often the quickest way to do it.

At the boat ramp

Launching a boat means juggling the truck, the trailer and a pocketful of keys, and it's easy to leave the truck keys on the seat or drop them off the dock. If the truck is locked with the trailer attached, tell us the name of the ramp or park and the lake, and describe the rig. If the keys went into the water, the locksmith may need to make a new key rather than just open the door, so mention that when you call.

Mount Dora festivals and antique weekends

The Mount Dora Arts Festival, the Craft Fair and Renninger's antique extravaganzas pack parking across town and along US 441. If you're locked out, share the lot name or nearest cross street along with your pin. Expect slower roads than usual on those weekends, and if you're parked in a grass field, note a landmark like a tent or a gate.

Off US 27 and the Turnpike

US 27 runs north and south through the west side of the county, and Florida's Turnpike cuts across it with exits at Minneola and Leesburg. If you're locked out at a gas station or restaurant near one of those roads, give the business name and the exit or cross road. Travelers heading between Orlando and the rest of the state stop here constantly, and many of them don't know the area — a business name is easier to find than a description.

A child, pet or older passenger still inside

A parked car in Central Florida heats up quickly, even in spring. If a child, a pet or a vulnerable adult is locked inside, call 911 first. Don't wait for a locksmith.
