Replacing keys far from the dealership

From much of Nassau County, the nearest dealership is a long drive, and a vehicle with no key cannot make that trip on its own. An automotive locksmith who comes to the vehicle saves the tow for many makes and models. That matters most in western Nassau, where a truck may be parked at the back of a property well off the nearest paved road, and a flatbed would have a hard time getting to it at all.

Yulee commuters on I-95

Plenty of Yulee residents drive south into Jacksonville for work, and losing the only key to a commuter car shuts that routine down. A spare cut and programmed now, and kept at home or in a desk drawer at work, is much easier than an emergency replacement in a parking lot. If the car has a push-button start, ask about a spare fob as well as the emergency blade inside it.

Farm and work trucks

Older trucks may use simpler keys that are quick to cut, while newer ones use transponder chips or smart fobs. Have the year, make and model, and the VIN if you can read it through the windshield, when you call, so the locksmith brings the right blanks and programming equipment out to the property on the first trip.

Visitors in rental cars

If you are visiting Amelia Island and lose the key to a rental car, call the rental company first. Rental agreements usually spell out how lost keys are handled, and a locksmith generally cannot make a key for a car that is registered to someone else without their authorization.

Proof you own the vehicle

The locksmith will need photo ID and the registration or title. If the truck is registered to a farm or a business, bring something showing you are authorized to act for it, such as a letter from the owner or business records with your name.
