How home lockouts go in Volusia County

Volusia's housing runs from single-family streets in Deltona, DeBary and Orange City to beachside condominiums along A1A and older bungalows near downtown DeLand. The fix for a standard lockout is similar everywhere: a locksmith opens the lock you have, usually without drilling. What changes is who you need to call first and what proof the locksmith will ask for.

Deltona and the West Volusia suburbs

Deltona is the county's largest city and mostly made up of single-family homes, many of them decades old. A lot of lockouts there start in the garage: the door to the house latches behind you, the opener remote is inside, and the garage door is closed. Tell the locksmith which door you need opened and whether the garage is open, since that can change the approach.

Beachside condos and towers

In condo buildings along the beach in Daytona Beach Shores, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach, check with the front desk, management office or association first. Many keep spare keys or have rules about who may work in the building. If they can't help, a locksmith can open your unit door once you show you live there.
