Locksmith help across a very big Jacksonville

Jacksonville and Duval County have been one government since the 1968 consolidation, and the result is a city that covers almost the entire county: from the marshes around Mayport to the pine woods out past the Westside, from the Northside and the airport down to Mandarin on the county line. Four places inside the county run their own city halls: Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach and the small town of Baldwin out west. We connect callers in all of them with a locksmith.

The lock problems here track the way people live in Jacksonville. Navy families arrive on orders and need a rental rekeyed before the boxes are unpacked. Beachgoers come back from the water to find the car key is somewhere in the sand. Travelers return to a car at JAX with no key in the bag. Owners of century-old houses in Riverside and Springfield wrestle with worn locks that fought the last three owners, too.

Why your exact Jacksonville location matters

By land area, Jacksonville is the largest city in the contiguous United States, well over 700 square miles. "I'm in Jacksonville" tells a locksmith almost nothing. When you call, give the part of town (Arlington, the Southside, Mandarin, the Westside, the Northside, San Marco, Riverside, Downtown or the Southbank), the nearest major road, and a cross street or landmark. Atlantic Boulevard, Beach Boulevard, San Jose Boulevard, Blanding Boulevard and the I-295 beltway are all useful reference points. A dropped pin from your phone is even better.

Which side of the St. Johns are you on?

The St. Johns River runs right through the middle of the city, and getting from one bank to the other means one of a handful of bridges: the Buckman to the south, the Fuller Warren, Acosta, Main Street and Hart around downtown, then the Mathews and the Dames Point farther east. A locksmith working the Southside who gets a call from the Westside has to cross the river. Telling us which side you are on, and which bridge you are closest to, helps match you with someone who can reach you without a long detour.

Military families at Mayport and NAS Jax

Naval Station Mayport, at the mouth of the St. Johns, and Naval Air Station Jacksonville, south of downtown along the river, bring a steady stream of service members and families into the city on permanent change-of-station orders. If you are renting or buying off base, rekeying on arrival is one of the simplest ways to know who can open your door, since a house near a base may have gone through several tenants in a few years. Base housing is different: locks and lockouts there go through the base housing office, not an outside locksmith.

The Beaches, the airport and event days

Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach fill up on warm weekends, and beach-access parking is where plenty of Duval car lockouts happen: keys buried in a towel, dropped in the surf, or locked in the trunk with the phone. Jacksonville International Airport, on the Northside, is another: garages and economy lots full of cars whose owners come home to find a key missing. And on big event days at the stadium and arena downtown, parking spreads across blocks of lots and streets, so the car can end up a long walk from where you remember leaving it.

Jacksonville & Duval County locksmith FAQs

Is there one locksmith who covers all of Jacksonville?+
We connect callers across Duval County with Express Lock & Key, the locksmith we work with here. Call (321) 405-1983 and tell us your part of town, your nearest major road and which side of the river you are on.
Do you cover Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach?+
Yes. They are separate cities from Jacksonville, but they are inside Duval County and we connect callers there with a locksmith. The same goes for Baldwin on the west side of the county.
We just moved here on PCS orders. Should we rekey?+
If you are in an off-base rental or a house you bought, it is a good idea, because you cannot know how many keys earlier occupants made. In base housing, contact the base housing office instead; they handle those locks.
Are locksmiths licensed in Florida?+
No. Florida has no statewide locksmith license, and since July 1, 2025 state law (section 163.211, Florida Statutes) has stopped counties and cities from licensing locksmiths, so there is no state or local license to look up. Ask for the business name, a written quote before work starts, and ID when the locksmith arrives.
Can I change the locks on a house in Riverside, Avondale or Springfield?+
Rekeying happens inside the lock, so nothing visible changes. These are locally designated historic districts, and exterior work there generally needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the city, so check with the city's historic preservation staff before swapping visible exterior hardware.
How is the price set?+
It depends on the job, the lock and the time of day. Ask for the full price on the phone, including any trip charge, and have it confirmed in writing before the work begins.
